Keith Haring 50th Anniversary Special Exhibition – Celebrating the 6th Anniversary of Ars Gallery

Apr 22, 2008 (Tue) - May 18, 2008 (Sun)
Venue: Ars Gallery
Organizer: Nakamura Keith Haring Collection

Keith Haring, an artist who defined the 1980s, had a career that spanned just over a decade before his untimely passing at the age of 31. The immense body of work he left behind resonates deeply with the human instinct, brimming with vitality, energy, and even a sense of madness that transforms visions of the future into dreams. Haring’s art is characterized by its duality—playful, colorful imagery representing dreams and hope, contrasted with an undercurrent of chaos, darkness, and inner turmoil. These aspects transcend the boundaries of New York’s street culture legacy, offering profound messages to young people who did not experience the 1980s, to children of the next generation, and to us today.

In 2008, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Keith Haring’s birth. As part of the commemorative series “It is art as I know it. It is life as I know it. Dreams, Love, Hope, and Peace”, organized by the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection, a special exhibition focusing on Haring’s print works will be held at Ars Gallery, which is marking its 6th anniversary.

The seven print works on display showcase Haring’s mastery of bold, vivid colors and the immediacy of his technique, created in single, decisive strokes that exude intensity and focus. These works also highlight Haring’s innovative experiments with materials, including washi paper and metal. Through this exhibition, visitors can experience the essence of Haring’s creativity and contribute to the re-evaluation of his printmaking achievements.
