Jointly organized by Fondazione Pisa and Mondo Mostre, the exhibition featured special participation from the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection. It was curated by Kaoru Yanase, Senior Advisor of the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection. This exhibition marked the European debut of over 170 pieces from Kazuo Nakamura’s personal collection housed at the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection in Japan. The displayed works spanned Haring’s early creations to his later pieces, including series such as Apocalypse (1988) and Flowers (1990), as well as various drawings, sculptures, and large-scale canvases like Untitled (1985). Renowned for their vivid colors and cheerful energy, Haring’s works have gained worldwide recognition, even among those unfamiliar with his brief yet impactful artistic career. His iconic motifs, including stylized figures, hearts, dogs, and his signature imagery, have made him a symbol of 1980s pop culture and art.

見どころ

In 1989, Haring visited Pisa at the invitation of then-student Piergiorgio Castellani. There, he painted the monumental mural Tuttomondo on the wall of the Church of Sant’Antonio, located near Pisa’s central station. The title Tuttomondo translates to “all the world” in Italian. While Haring also created murals in Rome during his lifetime, none have survived, making Tuttomondo the only existing mural by Haring in Italy. This exhibition featured several highlights, including Untitled (People) from the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection, early Subway Drawings created on subway advertising panels, and the collaborative work Andy Mouse with Andy Warhol. Additionally, the exhibition showcased rare photographs by Daniela Meucci, documenting the creation of Tuttomondo in Pisa.
